6 WEEK GLASSBLOWING CLASSES Beginning glassblowing 1 is designed to introduce basic skills to students who have little or no experience in handling hot glass. Classes include demonstrations and series of technical exercises with an emphasis on teamwork and having fun!!. Limit 9 per class. Beginning glassblowing 2 and internediate glassblowing are for students who wish to further develop basic skills and continue blowing glass following the first section. Building upon fundamental techniques, students will be encouraged to explore different forms in the glass medium. Approaches to color application and more advanced techniques will be introduced as well as having fun!! Limit 9 per class. Tuition: $580 (All materials included)
Registration is required in advance for all classes. A 50% non-refundable deposit of the tuition is due at the time of registration in order to reserve your space in the class and the balance is due by the first week of the class. All classes are first come first served. Print and fill out the class registration form. Visa, Master Card and American Express credit cards are accepted. Cancellation and refund One-Day workshops are available. Private instruction will give students individual attention, training and advice targeted to most effectively create your own work of glass art while experienceing a once in a liftime experience. INSTRUCTORS: Michiko Sakano Michiko is the educational coodinator at one sixty glass. She holds a MFA from Massachusetts College of art. She teaches classes as well as makes her funtional line of glass art. She has attended Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack School of crafts, and Penland School of crafts. Michiko has worked with a number of glass-makers around the United States and her native Japan. Teaching experience: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cleveland Institute of Art, Horizons center for art and Massachusetts College of art. Exhibitions: The Sculpture Center, The SPACES; collections: the Corning Glass Museum. Dan O'Shea Dan moved to Brooklyn 2005 and is currently working as glass shop technician and Instructor at One Sixty Glass. He has done extensive work as a mold maker producing architectual and sculptural work. He has worked with glass caster Henner Schroder, bronze caster Tom Pemberton, Glass artist Bruce Clark, and flameworker Larry Eichman. Dan holds a bachelors degree in glass from Alfred University. Amber Cowan Amber has been working with glass for 5 years. In 2004 she was the first woman to graduate from Salisbury University in Maryland with a Bachelor in fine arts with a concentration in hot glass. She now lives and works in New York City and is a hot shop technician and glassblowing instructor and One Sixty Glass in Williamburg Brooklyn. She has traveled and work with some of the finest glassmakers in the country. Amber's flameworked glass concentrates primarily on fine glass jewelery but is also incorporated into parts for assembly in conjuction with her blown glass. Emrys Berkower Emrys received a BFA with a concentration in painting and glass from Alfred University. He has worked for a number of glass artists and designers such as Eva Zeisel. Emrys has taught and demonstrated glassblowing nationally, produced and shown his work throughout the United States. In 2005, he was awarded a fellowshipat the Creative Glass Center of America. His works have been featured in the 2005 New Glass Review. Emrys currently lives and works in New York City. Leo Tecosky Leo received his BFA in sculpture from Alfred University. Leo has been a teaching assitant at Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Craft, and Corning Museum of Glass. His solo exhibition in New York City was at Go Fish Gallery in 2005. Leo's group exhibitions in the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles, and High Street Design in Millville NJ. Leo was an Artist-in-Residence at the Museum of Luminous Phenomena; he also participated in the Studio Assistantship Program at Wheaton Village that same year.. He assisted ata the Klenell Glass Studio in Sunne, Sweden. Leo currently resides in Brooklyn and is a freelance glass worker and an instructor. Thu Tran Thu is a visual artist living in Brooklyn NY. She has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions across the country, including San Francisco, New York, Cleveland, and Philadelphia and has also been awarded honors through the Agnes Gund Foundation and the Joyce Foundation. Her skill set has a wide range; aside from glass, she's worked extensively with textiles, mixed media sculpture, and video. She holds a BFA in glass from the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she graduated in the top 6 of her class, and has also attended glassblowing and hot sculpting workshops at the Penland School of Crafts. She has been working with glass since 2003.
